We assist with applications for un married partners and spouses, same sex partners, and children to join their UK partner and parents in the UK.

Your partner must:

You and your partner both need to be 18 or over and be married or unmarried and co-habitating for at least two years.  Also, you and your partner must intend to live together permanently in the UK.  You may have to the minimum English language rules.

  • be a British citizen; or
  • have settled in the UK – for example, they have indefinite leave to remain, settled status or proof of permanent residence; or
  • have refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK.

Your UK partner must demonstrate they can meet the minimum financial requirement.  

Minimum financial requirement

Unless exempt, the applicant must meet the financial requirement in the form of a minimum income requirement, also referred to as a minimum income threshold. The minimum income threshold for a Partner from 9 July 2012 and for a Partner applying under Appendix Armed Forces from 1 December 2013, without dependent children, is £18,600. 

If the Settlement Visa application includes a child at the same time, the minimum income threshold increases and is a higher financial requirement must be met. 

The level of the financial requirement to be met depends on the number of children who are applying at the date of application. 

An additional gross annual income of £3,800 is required for the first child sponsored in addition to the partner and an additional £2,400 for each further child. The level of the financial requirement will therefore be for example: 

  • Partner with no children – £18,600. 
    • 1 child in addition to the partner – £22,400. 
    • 2 children in addition to the partner – £24,800. 
    • 3 children in addition to the partner – £27,200. 

If the higher financial requirement and other requirements are met, the applicant child or children will be granted leave in line with the applicant partner. If the partner and a child or children are applying together, and the higher financial requirement and other requirements are not met, all the applicants will be refused.
