Also commonly referred to as ‘Grandparent’ entry. To obtain your entry clearance to the United Kingdom on the basis of your UK Ancestry, you must meet the following requirements and show you:

  • Are a Commonwealth citizen
  • Are aged 17 or over
  • Are able to provide proof that one of your grandparents was born in the UK and islands (Guernsey, Jersey or Isle of Man), Republic of Ireland before 31 March 1922, or on a British-registered ship or aircraft 
  • Will be able to work and intend to take or seek employment in the United Kingdom
  • Can maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants adequately without recourse to public funds
  • Have valid entry clearance under UK ancestry

General notes regarding UK Ancestry Visas

This visa allows you to work and live in the United Kingdom for 5 years.  You can also apply for residence in the United Kingdom. 

You can apply for an Ancestry Visa multiple times but need to prove you meet the requirements for each application.
